Australian Camp & Dhampus
The short ridge above the valley. Machhapuchhre close, Pokhara lights at night. One night is enough; two if you walk slowly.
You leave the valley floor at Phedi or Kande and climb through terraces into oak and rhododendron. Dhampus is a ridge village; Australian Camp is a grassy saddle a little higher, with a handful of lodges facing Machhapuchhre. On a clear afternoon the fish-tail sits close. At night you can still see Pokhara’s lights. This is not high altitude — you are on a hill above the city, not in a sanctuary.
The walk is a day, or an overnight. People treat it as a first night out of town, or a rest before Mardi Himal, which joins the same ridge.
