International Mountain Museum

The International Mountain Museum opened on 5 February 2004 in Ratopahiro, run by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. It records Himalayan peaks, the people who live on them, and the history of climbing — useful when cloud has eaten the real mountains. The site is on the order of 12 acres with several thousand square metres of galleries.
Expect halls on mountain geography, mountain peoples, and mountaineering, plus a garden. It is south of the old airport strip, a taxi from Lakeside. Hours are generally daytime; ticketed. Phone numbers and fees move — ask at the desk.
